The Essential Hairstyling Kit for the Mobile Stylist
Share
Every mobile stylist needs a kit. If you're in the business of doing hair, you need to be prepared for anything—and that means having all the right tools on hand.
I've been styling weddings in a mobile capacity since 2009, and when I first started I would have loved to have a handy list of 'must-haves' for my kit when I was first starting out, so I've put together a list of my essentials, and how to use them. I'll break it down into categories and explain why they're important. This list is by no means exhaustive, and I encourage you to experiment with new products and techniques as much as possible! But these are the basics you'll need to get started. I also take into consideration that I value vegan, and cruelty-free products in my kit. Over the years, you too will develop your favourites, and preferences when it comes to choosing which brands to support.
When you're a mobile stylist, you don't want to be lugging around a bunch of bulky tools that are going to get in the way and weigh you down.
So without further ado, here is what lives in my mobile styling kit:
1. Parlux 385 Hairdryer with Melody Silencer attachment:
2. The original GHD styling wand (not the new version, the first generation iron, and yes it still works perfectly! haha):
3. Silver Bullet Curling Wand:
4. Denman brush (the gold standard of hairbrushes):
5. Wide paddle brush (for brushing out) EVO:
6. Curl mousse, for preparing all types of hair for heat styling - I'm currently loving CAKE The Curl Whip Whipped Curl Mousse:
7. Finishing spray - I currently have NAK HAIR Fixation Finishing Spray in my kit.
8. Dry shampoo - I LOVE Eco Style Project
And with all of these goodies, and years of practice, I can create goodness like this:
